Privacy Policy
Last updated March 2026. Short version: we collect your email, use it only to send the briefing, and never sell it.
What We Collect
We collect your email address when you subscribe. Optionally, you may select which BC zones you want included in your briefing. That is all.
How We Use It
Your email is used solely to send the daily Backcountry Briefing at 6:30 AM PST. We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with any third party. We do not use it for advertising or marketing beyond the briefing you signed up for.
Analytics
We track email open and click events via Resend to understand engagement and improve the briefing. We use a self-hosted analytics beacon on the website to count page views. No third-party tracking scripts (Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, etc.) are loaded on this site.
Data Storage
Subscriber emails are stored in AWS S3 in the ca-central-1 region (Canada). We do not store payment information — there is no paid tier at this time.
Unsubscribe
Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link. Clicking it immediately removes your address from all future sends. You can also email us at briefing@backcountrybriefing.ca and we will remove you within 24 hours.
CASL Compliance
We comply with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Subscriptions require explicit opt-in via email verification. Every email identifies the sender and provides a functional unsubscribe mechanism.
